Why getting the size right matters

A Ronni Nicole dress is built around a carefully balanced pattern. The bust, waist and hip proportions are drafted to work together, the darts are placed for a real woman's figure, and the 'O So Slim' inner lining is cut to gently smooth rather than grip. When you buy your true size, every one of those design choices works for you.

A dress that is slightly too small can feel restrictive across the ribcage, pull at the side seams and distort a beautiful print. A dress that is slightly too large can drop at the shoulder, sit loosely at the waist and lose its flattering hourglass shape. Our size chart is designed to prevent both.

All measurements are shown in both inches and centimetres. These are the measurements of your body, taken over underwear. Our patterns add the appropriate ease on top.

How to measure yourself accurately

You'll need a soft tape measure, a close-fitting top or a well-fitted bra, and a mirror or a willing friend. Stand tall, breathe normally, and don't pull the tape tight.

Bust

Run the tape around the fullest part of your bust, keeping it level front and back and parallel with the floor. Do not pull tight — you are measuring the bust, not compressing it.

Waist

Find your natural waist — the narrowest part of your torso, usually sitting a couple of inches above your belly button. Tie a thin ribbon around yourself and let it settle if you're unsure. Measure where the ribbon sits.

Hip

Measure the fullest part of your hip, usually 20-22 cm (about 8-9 inches) below the natural waist. Keep the tape level and relaxed. This is the key measurement for our fit & flare and sheath dresses.

Dress length reference

Measure from the nape of your neck straight down your centre back to the point where you'd like the dress to fall. We publish every dress's finished back length on the product page.

Fit notes by silhouette

Different silhouettes ease differently. Use the guidance below alongside the chart above.

  • Fit & flare dresses: size by bust and waist. The flared skirt accommodates a wider range of hip measurements.
  • Faux-wrap dresses: size by bust if you have a larger bust relative to your waist; otherwise size by waist.
  • Sheath dresses: size by the largest of your three measurements to ensure a smooth line over the body.
  • Jumpsuits: size by the largest of bust and hip; waist adjustment is provided by belts or elasticated backs.
  • Skirts: size by waist for fitted styles and hip for pencil cuts.
  • Shirts: size by bust; darts prevent gaping.
  • Cardigans and sweaters: size down for a fitted look, take your true size for a classic fit, or size up for a relaxed feel.
